Manchester United transfer spotlight: Lucas Biglia 'agrees' four-year-deal

They will spend the season jostling for a starting place with the likes of Michael Carrick, Ander Herrera and Marouane Fellaini, but they may be competing with one more name.

Reports have emerged suggesting that United are on the verge of making Lazio captain Lucas Biglia their sixth signing of the transfer window for £25m.

So who is Lucas Biglia? talkSPORT shines the spotlight on Manchester United’s latest target.

Name: Lucas Rodrigo Biglia
Date of birth (Age): 30/01/1986
Birthplace: Mercedes, Argentina
Position: Central midfield
Club: Lazio

What’s the latest?
Reports have come out of France stating Louis van Gaal and Manchester United are back in for the Argentina international after having a £17m bid rejected earlier this summer.

According to these rumours, United have apparently already agreed personal terms with Biglia on a four-year contract and the only thing holding up the deal at the moment is the Italian side’s insistence on the Red Devils paying £25m.

Van Gaal is hoping to tie up a joint deal for Biglia and Barcelona’s Pedro by the end of the week.

Did you know?

1) Biglia was part of the Argentina under-20s side which won the 2005 under-20s World Cup alongside Lionel Messi, Pablo Zabaleta, Sergio Aguero and Fernando Gago.

2) The Argentine has often drawn comparisons with fellow countryman Fernando Redondo, who represented Real Madrid and AC Milan, because of his hard tackling and swift passing abilities.

3) Arsenal were strongly linked with the midfielder in 2013 when he played for Anderlecht. However the move did not materialise despite Biglia’s best intentions so he moved to Lazio instead.

4) Biglia is of Italian decent and received citizenship in 2009 and was eligible to play for either country until 2011 when he made his debut for Argentina.

They say:

Biglia refused to rule out leaving the Italian capital despite Lazio’s insistence he will stay.

He said: “Does the fact I accepted the captain’s armband mean I will definitely stay? I don’t know.

“It doesn’t depend on me. I am here and working hard and thinking about tomorrow’s game. After that anything can happen.”
