Shaqiri: ‘Excited to join Stoke’

Xherdan Shaqiri is ‘incredibly excited’ about life at Stoke City, having completed a move from Inter.

The winger has signed for the Potters for a fee of €17m, having spent just over seven months at San Siro after joining from Bayern Munich in January.

I am very happy, and incredibly excited that this transfer to Stoke City has finally happened,” Shaqiri told Stoke’s official website.

“Over the past three days I have met great people at the club and witnessed the wonderful atmosphere at the Britannia Stadium on Sunday. That experience was overwhelming.

“My special thanks go to the manager, Mark Hughes, Chief Executive Tony Scholes and Mark Cartwright for their work in helping to make this deal happen over the past few months.

“I sincerely appreciate it so much, and will give my utmost to pay them and the supporters back on the pitch over the coming months and years.

“I can’t wait to meet my new teammates and make my debut for the club."

Juventus call Siqueira?

Juventus director general Giuseppe Marotta has reportedly phoned Atletico Madrid’s Guilherme Siqueira to convince him to move to Turin.

The Bianconeri have reportedly agreed a transfer fee with the Spanish club, but the Brazilian is trying to decide between a move to Serie A and a possible switch to Paris Saint-Germain.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio’s website, Marotta has today spoken to Siqueira by phone to try and convince him to accept the four-year deal worth €2.6 million per season.

Juve are seeking a left-back alternative to Patrice Evra for the forthcoming season, and are thought to have agreed terms on a €1.8m loan with €6m option to buy.

Pulvirenti: ‘I’ll retire from football’

Disgraced Catania President Antonino Pulvirenti says he’ll ‘retire from football’ after the FIGC Prosecutor recommended a five-year ban.

The Elefanti patron has admitted to attempting to fix five Serie B matches last season, and was today given a banning order from all stadiums.

FIGC Prosecutor Stefano Palazzi then gave his recommended punishments, saying Catania should be relegated to the Lega Pro and deducted five points, with Pulvirenti to be banned for five years.

The FIGC’s Federal Tribunal, chaired by Sergio Artico, will now assess whether the punishment is appropriate, but the disgraced President says he wants out of football anyway.

“I’ll retire from football,” Pulvirenti said after hearing Palazzi’s recommendations.

“I’ve instructed my lawyer to sell the club, and to appeal against the stadium ban. It was a strange day, I worked with everyone, and I revealed all I know.

“Obviously Palazzi has evaluated my attitude and made his request.”

Official: Milan sign Romagnoli

Milan have officially completed the signing of Roma defender Alessio Romagnoli, who has signed a contract until 2020.

The Rossoneri’s pursuit of the Italian Under-21 international has been one of the longest-running transfer sagas of the summer, but centre-back finally underwent a medical today after the two clubs agreed a fee.

“Welcome, Alessio,” joint-CEO Adriano Galliani wrote in a statement on the club’s official website.

“You’ve signed a contract with us until June 30, 2020 and we’re really happy.

“You’re a 20-year-old lad, and that’s why we think you have plenty of time to become one of our symbols, one of those who brands their name on the ball in the tradition of the great defenders of the Rossoneri school, a standard who we can raise high in San Siro.

“A big hug from all of us at Milan, and forza Alessio!”
